Colby Catherine Evans used to be Maria Giovanni. She was the second child of a police officer whose actions forced him and his family into protective custody. They ended up in the witness protection program, and while Colby is sort of glad she's still alive, there are indeed days when she'd rather be dead. Just saying.
There is no need to speak about Maria, because Maria never existed. But Colby? Colby is just a monster. There are pills in Colby's room she doesn't dare take. Last year, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Sometimes, she'll display explosive anger, and others--she's as quiet and docile as a lamb. But, when she is dangerous, she is dangerous. Colby was diagnosed, and given the drugs, and she took four at once. To see if she could get high, of course. But she didn't. So she never took them again. Not taking them makes her volatile and out of control, but who cares? Certainly not her. She doesn't want to be safe. She wants to have fun. And she doesn't want to be normal. She wants to be loved.
Colby started doing drugs when she was in the tenth grade. And, not long after--she lost her virginity on a bad trip. She doesn't care much for her soul and will be dammed if anyone tells her what to do. Maria would never do half of the things Colby. She was pleasant. Sweet. But, Colby is in your face. Colby is a force of nature. The only thing that can keep her sane is Andrew Keller. They dated for a while. And then, they didn't. And Colby has no idea why. She loves Andrew and while he doesn't know it know, he will soon, and then he'll have to take her back. She can get a little crazy around him, but that's only because she cares so much. Obviously. She is dying, slowly and melodramatically, so he'd better shape up and take her back before she kills him.
The met in a relatively simple way. They went to the same school. He was a good student to be partnered up with--pretty laid back and ridiculously smart. They got along okay, and it was only after a while she began to see him in a different light. They started hanging out, and still, things were normal. As their relationship got older, and they got closer, Colby was convinced she fell in love. She became fixated on Andrew, extremely so.
It started with hourly texts and wanting to know where he was, then, breaking up and making up. She then began to obsessively stalk Andrew. He eventually broke up with her, and it was devastating to Colby. She let herself care and love and this is what happened. For days she followed him, trying to understand why he broke up with her, why he was doing something so wrong and stupid. But, then, she stopped. And she spent a day getting completely fucked up. The next afternoon when she came to, Colby resolved to get Andrew back. By any means necessary. She got a job at his father's shop to be close to him, she still stalks him constantly, and texts him all time.
Most of the time, Colby spends her time either working or getting wasted. She's a minimalist, and smokes pot on the job. She's likely to get fired anyday now, but she loves the look on Andrew's face when he walks in and sees her. Priceless.
Honestly, Colby has no idea what she's going to do with her life. She's drifting, falling through things and figuring them out as she goes. Or not figuring them out.
